Serpentine Sofa
-
Description
Designed in 1950, the Serpentine Sofa’s dynamic shape is instantly recognizable — a sensuous, curved shape overflows into a dramatic pouf, creating a range of usable seating. Kagan considered the rigidity of standard sofas to be incompatible with the way rooms were actually used while entertaining guests. Moving furniture away from the walls not only benefited conversation, but also created more wall space for artwork; the Serpentine Sofa has become a favorite among art collectors to build nuanced milieus for entertaining that provided ample seating without sacrificing wall space.
