Emergence SC
-
Description
Emergence SC is an abstract woven sculpture by Eric Gushee, who draws on the scientific concept of emergence theory to allow structures to dictate their own natural evolution as they take shape. Part of a series, each sculpture is created from a weaving process using rebar ties and aircraft cable. Rooted in this unique approach to traditional fiber techniques, Gushee’s pieces do not follow any blueprint, and instead reveal themselves through the repetition of a single act or gesture, a process that pushes the boundaries of a material’s true qualities.

Artist
Eric Gushee
Eric Gushee’s large metal and wire sculptures are crafted from fiber, weaving and textile techniques. His work employs a conceptual and research-based methodology, drawing from mimetic traditions with abstract variations and adapting figures from nature. His sculptures showcase the profundity of complex systems arising through the repetition of a single act or gesture; he transforms construction and engineering materials into ephemeral yet industrial sculptures that integrate themes from architectural design and the natural and social sciences.
