Lens Sconce

Lens Sconce

  • Description
An Art Deco emerald-cut glass earring inspired Alison Berger to incorporate faceted crystal in her designs like this Lens Sconce. It takes days to hand-carve and finish the raw cast glass faceted lens, revealing the proverbial diamond underneath the surface. A single bulb is strategically placed, resulting in an intensity of refraction that makes the light source seem viewed through a spectrum. Berger describes this piece as having “an industrial feeling that I love, though it still has a refined elegance that recalls the Deco earring that was my original inspiration.”

Alison Berger fuses nature and architecture to create unique, iconic glass pieces. She studied glass blowing for more than 25 years and apprenticed with sculptor Dale Chihuly. Her innovative work is featured in the Corning Museum permanent collection and has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art and in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum's National Design Triennial. Each piece is hand blown, annealed for two to three days, and then hand-finished and, in some cases, hand-etched.  HOLLY HUNT has cherished her best-in-class partnership for more than 20 years.
