Martha Sturdy

Quality, integrity of design and balance are the signature elements of every Martha Sturdy work. Born in Vancouver, Sturdy has spent most of her life in British Columbia. Her Pacific Northwest upbringing is firmly rooted in her themes, focused on landscapes and exploration with raw materials and scale. Sturdy has said, “My work is not for thinking about a specific environment, it’s about being witness to the emotive impact of nature’s balanced composition.”

Sturdy has gained an international reputation as a leader in functional art and design. Her iconic wearable sculpture was featured in ELLE, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. As Sturdy’s creativity evolved, her collection developed into a series of sculptural home furnishings using resin, steel, brass and salvaged cedar. She believes that creativity and beauty should be evident in everything we do, and that a well-articulated space supports both peace of mind and peace in general.
