Eric Gushee

Eric Gushee’s works consist of large, metal and wire sculptures constructed through fiber, weaving, and textile techniques. His most recent work is based on abstract variations on mimetic traditions – adapting figures from concepts in nature and employing a conceptual and research-based methodology. Each sculpture is a rigorous dedication to complex systems that arrive through repetition of a single act or gesture. Gushee uses common construction and engineering materials, wholly transforming his original sources and creating a more ephemeral object. While maintaining their industrial qualities, the sculptures integrate and reflect themes found in architectural design and the natural and social sciences. His work resides in both the micro and macro realms acknowledging that the smallest composition elements are capable of profound gesture.
