Description
In Kathy Goodell’s studio, the intersection of ritual and experimentation becomes the foundation of her art-making process. By working on the floor with canvas tarps, her paintings often appear untouched by gravity, as she can approach the work from all four sides without shifting the material. Her approach embodies the themes of burial and revelation, metaphors for the emotional layers we continuously uncover in life. The paint’s texture and its motion on the surface communicate her deepest emotions and thoughts. Goodell begins with an open-ended process, where the first placement of paint marks the beginning of the creative journey, offering insight into her evolving expression.

Kathy Goodell
Kathy Goodell is a San Francisco-born artist whose sculptural and mixed-media practice spans decades of innovation and experimentation. A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Goodell has been recognized with numerous accolades and has exhibited nationally and internationally. She is also a dedicated educator, serving as a professor at the State University of New York in New Paltz, where she continues to shape the next generation of artists.
