Barrel Unicorn Chair
-
Description
In the late 1950s, Vladimir Kagan began experimenting with sculpted cast aluminum bases, marking a new phase in his work. The Barrel Unicorn Chair debuted in 1958 and was part of Kagan’s Room for Total Living installation for Monsanto Chemstrand at the Park Avenue Armory Show in 1963. This project prompted Kagan to reimagine the Barrel design concept, scaling it down to fit dining or office settings. The cast aluminum base signaled a bold transition into new material possibilities and an evolution of Kagan’s designs into the 1960s.
