Salvador Dominguez

Basing his works on his Mexican and Southern Californian heritage, Salvador Dominguez is a true craftsman who explores new boundaries. “I grew up in an environment where trade and craft are used interchangeably as currency,” he has noted “as a result I find myself embracing physical processes in exploring the relationship between material and identity.” A multi-dimensional artist using traditional blue-collar practices, he works in media from paper to cast iron, creating an aesthetic that is raw, rustic and ever-present. His pieces evoke a sense of pride and tradition, emerging from the memories of his childhood and transforming into iconographies, which he uses as markers throughout his work. Now based in Chicago, Dominguez finds harmony through competing materials and imagery. The Los Caballos series, curated for HOLLY HUNT, is a collection of compositions and gestures representative of both the artist’s culture and craft.
