Freeform Curved Sofa

Designed in 1950, the Freeform Curved Sofa’s iconic shape is instantly recognizable — a sensuous curve continues into an open seat extension, creating a range of usable seating. Kagan considered the rigidity of standard sofas to be incompatible with the way rooms were actually used while entertaining guests. The Freeform’s sinuous line draws people together and gives structure to a space like “interior landscaping,” encouraging placement away from walls. In doing so, this design transformed the use of space by prioritizing engagement and providing ample seating without sacrificing wall space.
