We have lost a good friend, great architect, artist, and designer.
Gene Summers, Architect FAIA, studied under and worked with Bill Caudill, FAIA Gold Medallist, while attending Texas A&M University. He attended graduate school at Illinois Institute of Technology studying under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the most influential architect of this era. Summers then worked with Mies from 1950 – 1966 and became a chief assistant to the Master.
Working as the Partner-in-charge of design in the C.F. Murphy office, he was responsible for McCormick Place, Chicago's convention hall, as well as a number of other major buildings. Gene brought Helmut Jahn into the C.F. Murphy office. In 1973, Summers and partner Phyllis Lambert formed Ridgeway Ltd, a company that restored and renovated the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. In 1985, after moving to the south of France, he began the development of "Works in Bronze".
We are honored to have a limited number of furniture and accessory pieces designed by Gene Summers, available through HOLLY HUNT Showrooms in New York, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles.
