The Azabache Sequence is part of Edward Lentsch’s Azabache Series, derived from the stone of the same name which served as a symbol of protection and purification for the Ancient Egyptians, Phoenicians, Etruscans and Romans. A large-scale painting characterized by layered compositions, it’s reflective of Lentsch’s alchemic approach to altering conventional materials to create a complex interplay of textures and effects. The result is a piece that conveys depth and movement, invites introspection and evokes the ephemeral.
